In Week 17, Barkley ran for 167 yards and crossed the 2,000 yard mark, becoming the ninth NFL running back to do so. Entering Week 18, Barkley sat at 2,005 rushing yards on the season, 101 yards shy of breaking Eric Dickerson's single-season rushing yards record.
